Born in a City
Shaped by Water
From Venice to North America:
A Flood Defense Legacy
Waveblockaid is the North American counterpart of Acqualock a patented flood protection system engineered to withstand the test of time. Originally developed to address the persistent flooding challenges of Venice, a city shaped by water, the solution represents a precise and durable response to an ongoing environmental reality.
For over 25 years, Acqualock has been trusted across Venice by a wide spectrum of users, from traditional local shops to high-end boutiques and luxury hotels. Its proven performance has also led to widespread adoption in industrial applications throughout Italy.
Acqualock was developed by the internationally recognized Ettore Bertoldini metal fabrication company, a firm with over a century of expertise in metalworking. Today, the company is known for delivering bespoke metal solutions for cruise ships, specializing in staircases, balustrades, and complex structural components. Their portfolio spans contemporary architectural projects as well as the restoration of historic landmarks.

A Legacy Forged in Metal
In the heart of Venice, within the historic Sestiere of San Marco, lies Calle dei Fabbri, a street that embodies a legacy of tradition and masterful craftsmanship. Known as the birthplace of the city’s earliest blacksmith workshops, it marks the origins of the Bertoldini family’s remarkable journey, an enduring lineage that has preserved and refined the art of ironworking for over three centuries.
Originally from the province of Bergamo, the Bertoldini family established themselves in La Serenissima during the era of the Venetian Republic, earning distinction for their ability to transform raw metal into enduring works of functional art.
Today, the Bertoldini name remains synonymous with precision, quality, and artisan excellence. Their work is defined by meticulous attention to detail and a proven ability to collaborate with internationally renowned architects and designers. Whether restoring historic landmarks or executing contemporary architectural projects, each creation reflects a disciplined approach to metal construction where heritage craftsmanship meets modern engineering standards.
